Film Review: Jason Bourne (PG-13)

Matt Damon returns as the adrenaline-fueled, ex-CIA agent Jason Bourne.

Fans of the original two Bourne films (The Bourne Supremacy” and “The Bourne Ultimatum”) will be eager to forget “The Bourne Legacy” (2012), and return to the spectacular action-flick style of Paul Greengrass and the presence of Matt Damon
as the iconic super-spy. Nine years ago Damon left Jason Bourne behind, but he is back to prove that he is as deadly as ever.

What coaxed Bourne (Matt Damon) out of the shadows and back into the dark and dangerous world of international espionage? Two reasons come to light in the film, but neither is clear to the audience. First there is a rumored spy-network-training program in the works that is even moreaggressive than the original program that Bourne experienced, and second is the cloudy hint that Bourne's father's career and demise might be explained. Neither premise is fully developed but they serve as a reason to kick-off another high tension episode with one of our favorite spies.

CIA Director Robert Dewey (Tommy Lee Jones) is hot on the trail of Bourne
and would like him out of the picture. Jones does a worthy job as the determined, focused government agent who will stop at nothing to get his job done. Of course there is a covert hit man, The Asset (Vincent Cassel), trailing Bourne's every move using the latest spy gadgets. But Bourne has his own lovely asset, Alicia Vikander (Heather Lee) a sly, clever hacker who works with Dewey, but may have a turn of
loyalty when it comes to Bourne.

Cinematographer Barry Ackroyd steals the show from behind the scenes as he executes some of the finest action sequences ever to flash across the big screen. The Las Vegas sequence of scenes is especially mesmerizing with the flashing neon lights, the car chases that defy reality and an ultimate, grueling physical battle.

Jason Bourne is not at all chatty in this episode, with some attributing a mere 288 words of dialogue to him. I did not count, but his actions definitely speak louder, and more frequently, than his words.
