Two Homers Lead Oakville Over Seckman

The Jaguars hosted a tough Tigers team on Wednesday afternoon.

Two pitchers hit their first home runs of the season Wednesday: St. Louis Cardinal Adam Wainwright and Oakville softball’s Alex Frenz.

“I’ve been really struggling at the plate lately. It gave me a lot more confidence and felt really good,” Frenz said after Wednesday’s game at Seckman High School.

The Tigers defeated the Jaguars 11-0 in five innings.

Frenz wasn’t the only home run hitter as Savannah Fedorchak knocked two batters in during the fourth inning.

Oakville started strong with four runs in the first inning thanks to Frenz’s home run and doubles by Fedorchak and Jordan Michalski.

The Tigers are now 7-2 for the season and coach Rich Sturm said it’s because of how much the athletes have improved from last year.

His strategy is being reckless on offense and conservative on defense.

“We want to take as many chances as we can, and try to put as much pressure on the opponent and force them to make some mistakes, which we’re able to do a couple times,” he said.

The Jaguars didn’t make many mistakes, but couldn’t keep up with Oakville’s bunting and long hits.

Shortstop Lauren Faulstich hit well for Seckman with a double and a single.

“I was really happy with the way she hit the ball today, she drove the ball and swung really hard,” Seckman coach Steve Bonastia said.

Despite the 11-run loss, Bonastia wasn’t disappointed in his team.

“I just think sometimes it doesn’t go for you,” he said. “We were hitting the ball at people and they made some plays in the field. We weren’t getting those balls to fall.”
