FZN Senior Spotlight - Megan Mathers

A look at the Class of 2020

What activity did you miss this spring?

"I missed my orchestra spring concert. I have been in orchestra for my entire FZN career, and I was a section leader for two years, and this year I made assistant concertmaster. I have been playing violin since I was around 5 years old."

"My favorite memory was during our New York City trip, when we got the chance to play at the United Nations Headquarters. A huge crowd gathered, and people from so many different countries speaking so many different languages stopped to listen to our music. For a few moments, we were able to unite all of them through music, and that is something I will never forget as long as I live."

What other activities have you been involved in during high school?

"I have been involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, PPI, and the New Kids on the Block club."

Any additional information you would like to add?

"I was so excited for our spring concert because it was our last chance to play together as an orchestra family. When I moved here, orchestra gave me a place where I felt like I belonged and it taught me so much discipline and musical appreciation. Our spring concert is also a chance for us seniors to say thank you to Ms Kenessey for building us up to be the musicians we are today, and while it’s sad that we don’t get that chance, I’m so thankful for her and this program."

What do you plan on doing after graduation?

"I plan on attending the University of Missouri- Kansas City in order to major in Psychology, and I hope to get involved in a community music group or orchestra while I am there."
