Vehicle theft continues to be on the rise in the region, especially as the weather becomes warmer. One tactic suspects are using is to initiate a minor, fender bender accident as a ruse to steal the other driver’s car.

How do you help protect yourself from becoming a victim of car theft? Be vigilant about securing your car and take preventive measures to keep your car safe. Here are a few additional tips to help protect your car from theft.

1.    Lock your doors.

2.    Remove your keys from the vehicle before exiting the car. 

3.    Do not leave a spare key near or in your vehicle. 

4.    Roll up your windows.

5.    Parks in well-lit areas.

6.    Do not leave valuables in your car.

7.    Be alert.

8.    If your vehicle has anti-theft technology, use it.

9.    Never leave the area while your vehicle is running.
