Family Dollar to Open Store in Olivette June 13; Maybe?

Inspection delays means the business may not be able to open on time.

Ask a foremen on the job at the Family Dollar construction site at 9435 Olive Blvd. and you get a sense of frustration.

Olivette oursources nearly all of its inspections, mechanical, electrical and plumbing to St. Louis County. Seems getting these inspectors coordinated can be a dicy issue.

The work crew would like to finish up the installation of celing tiles. But until electrical lines are inspected, no go on this.

The tile floor has been laid and the the place covered with drywall, but that's about it. The work is far from done when crews can set up shelves and stack sellable items.

Carlos Trejo of the Olivette Building department is aware of all these issues. He knows pulling different inspectors together at the same time can be problematic.

The ownership expects to have a "soft" opening June 13 with the grand opening and ribbon cutting set for June 27. If inspectors don't get their work done, these deadlines could be pushed into July. "The owner seemed somewhat uncertain about those dates," said Trejo.
