Women..Attaching Meaning to Trauma
Women who have experienced emotional, physical or sexual trauma have a lot to teach us.

Women that I see in my practice own extraordinary survival skills. Many have experienced unspeakable trauma in their lives. This may be the first time they have spoken about it. One thing that they all have in common is the will and ability to survive, grow and heal.
Trauma survivors are the most creative group of folks around. Many were parented by emotionally and developmentally unprepared or abusive parents. These women were not allowed opportunities for learning and growth. Therefore, they entered adolescents and adulthood lost, guessing at what is normal and creating avenues to cope in the foreign land of adulthood. Lacking adequate role models and guidance they develop addictions such as: alcohol, drugs, compulsive shopping and eating, gambling or relationships. Self-destructive behaviors part of the norm. As are feeling numb inside.
One way to feel again is to connect meaning to your trauma. When we come to terms with our own experiences and want to use them to help others...healing begins.
