Renee Chronister, co-founder and CEO of Parameter Security, said a big mistake people make with passwords is in writing them down, often on a piece of paper that's underneath their keyboard.Â
"Don't ever put it underneath the keyboard and don't share it with other people," she said.Â
Chronister suggests people use pass phrases instead of passwords.Â

For example, Mary had a little lamb as a pass phrase, could be done with spaces or underscores, which are special characters or as complicated as M@RY1H@D@L1TTLEL@mb, which could be more difficult to remember.Â
"For some people to remember, ok this password is 'Mary Had a Little Lamb', this password is 'I went to the dark side', this password is 'Have a nice Easter' or something of that nature, the pass phrases are a little easier to remember than passwords," she said.Â
