Man Chucked Chair From Balcony at Officer Responding to Main Street Burglary, Police Say

A man tried to break into a second-floor balcony door at Alice’s Tea Room and Miniatures Saturday. When a St. Charles police officer arrived, he threw an iron patio chair off the second-story balcony at the officer.
The officer, Jason Chappel, was able to dodge the chair and police arrested Cody M. Woods, 25, of the 3600 block of St. Bridget Lane in Maryland Heights.
Woods was charged Monday with attempted burglary, assaulting an officer and second-degree property damage.
St. Charles Police said Woods broke a door, glass window and a coach light while attempting to break into Alice’s Tea Room at 329 South Main Street at about 11:27 p.m. Saturday.
Woods is being held by St. Charles County Corrections. Bail was set at $10,000, cash only.
