Saint Charles Mayor Wants New $1 Million Welcome Sign

What do you think? Does St. Charles need a new sign?

ST. CHARLES, MO — Mayor Sally Faith wants a new sign to welcome visitors to St. Charles along Interstate 70, Fox 2 St. Louis reports. The cost: $1 million.

"It is a lot of money," Faith told the television station. But, she added, "It is important to know when you're in St. Charles County. The city is the entrance into the county."

There's just one snag. The city council has refused to approve that much money for a sign. So, for now, the project is on hold. Faith said maybe a $500,000 sign would be more appropriate.

"We need it," she said. "I'm not going to move off of that. We do need a sign there."

Faith said anyone that wants to donate to have the new sign built would be welcome to do so, and even entertained putting donor's names on the bottom of the sign.
