St. Charles Woman Charged With Murder In Alleged Home Invasion

Karen Reisinger told police she shot Carlton Ford in self-defense. Police say there's more to the story.

ST. CHARLES, MO — Karen E. Reisinger, 31, has been charged with first-degree murder following the shooting death of Carlton Eugene Ford Jr., 26, at her St. Charles apartment over the weekend, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Police said they were called Saturday about a reported home invasion and found Ford injured in the breezeway. He later died at the hospital.

Reisinger told police Ford had tried to force his way into her apartment and that she shot him in self defense. But police said she failed to report an earlier confrontation between herself and Ford, who had entered the apartment earlier that day demanding drugs and money. Ford apparently left with what he had come for, but returned that evening, according to the Post-Dispatch:

Police said that at 5:30 p.m., Ford knocked on the door of Reisinger's apartment, and Reisinger retrieved a firearm before her boyfriend unlocked the door. Moments after the door opened, Reisinger fired one round at Ford, causing him to fall to the ground. Reisinger fired a second round at Ford while he was lying on the ground.
