A 36-year-old teacher at Francis Howell High School was wounded Wednesday afternoon after classes were dismissed early.

ST. CHARLES, MO — A 36-year-old teacher at Francis Howell High School was shot Wednesday afternoon after classes were dismissed early. The shooting happened around 2:45 p.m. and a spokesman for the school said the only students on campus were there for extracurricular activities.

Those remaining students as well as students at several other area schools were placed on lockdown while authorities looked for the shooter, who remains at large.

The shooting took place on a running trail beside the school's baseball field. Police said a passing driver took the teacher to the high school where they called police and paramedics. The teacher was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released late last night. Authorities have not released the teacher's name.
