Students who transferred from Normandy School District to Francis Howell schools this year got a peek at their new schools over the weekend as they went up to enroll.Â
They'll also have a chance to participate in a transition day, scheduled for Aug. 6, during which student leaders and teachers will show off the school, explain expectations and opportunities to join various activities.Â
All of the 475 students from the unaccredited Normandy School District who wanted to enroll in the Francis Howell School District this year were able to, according to the Cooperating School Districts office, which handled the assignments for Normandy Students and students in Riverview Gardens School District.Â
The transfer requests came after the Missouri Supreme Court ruled that students in an unaccredited district can choose to attend an accredited school district in an adjoining county. Students had until Aug. 1 to apply to transfer.
The Francis Howell School District distributed the students equally amongst the 18 schools, according to the district website.Â
Â
The largest number of transfer students will be in grades 6, 7 and 8th; 164 total. Francis Howell Central, located in unincorporated St. Charles County, near Cottleville, was assigned the most high school students with 54. Hollenbeck Middle School was assigned the most middle school students, with 38. Castilio Elementary and Harvest Ridge Elementary were assigned the most elementary school students, with 21 each.Â
Schools in the City of St. Charles area:Â
- 19 students were assigned to Becky-David Elementary School
- 21 students were assigned to Harvest Ridge
- 29 were assigned to Barnwell Middle School
- 38 students were assigned to Hollenbeck
- 44 students were assigned to Francis Howell North High School
