Trial Begins for Man Accused of Torturing Dog

Italian greyhound died of his injuries, according to police.

The trial for a man accused of breaking into his girlfriend's house and torturing her dog started this week in St. Charles, according to a story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Charles Zidek, 37, of Ellisville, was charged with burglary and animal abuse. According to prosecutors, he broke out a basement window of Daina Walkonis' house in St. Charles on Oct. 9, 2011 and attacked her Italian greyhound while she was not home. The 8-pound animal had to be euthanized.
