Where to Recycle All Your Stuff in St. Charles

Want to go green? Interested in recylcing? Well you're in luck.

Find out how to recycle just about everything in St. Charles in this handy guide. The city collects recyclables once per week from the a recycling cart. Republic Services provides either a 95 gallon, 65 gallon, or 35 gallon recycle cart. The service day will vary depending upon your address and all containers must be accessible and ready for service by 6:00 a.m. on the assigned service day. All of your items can be placed in just one bin, and the charge for recycling is already included in the monthly trash bill.

What Can Be Recycled? 

Items accepted for Recycling are as follows:

• Aluminum Beverage Cans (trays and foil) 
• Aseptic Packaging
• Steel/Tin Food & Beverage Cans
• Glass Food & Beverage Bottles and Jars – Soda/Beer/Wine/Flavored Drink Bottles and Food Jars
• #1 PET Beverage Containers – Soda/Water/Flavored Drinks (Clear and Green)
• #2 HDPE – Natural Containers – Milk/Water/Juice Jugs
• #4 LDPE – Margarine tubs, frozen dessert cups, six and twelve pack rings
• #5 PP – Yogurt cups, narrow neck syrup and ketchup bottles
• #2 HDPE – Color Containers – Detergent & Fabric Softener Bottles
• #3 PVC – Narrow Neck Containers Only 
• #7 Other – Narrow Neck Containers Only
• Newspaper
• Mixed Paper Includes

The citys recommends that residents rinse food and beverage containers first before placing them in the bin in order to keep away bugs and odors.

What CANNOT Be Recycled At This Time?

• Light bulbs, window glass, glass ovenware, mirrors, drinking glasses, or ceramics
• #6 plastic (commonly known as styrofoam)
• Motor vehicle and trailer tires
• Lead-acid batteries
• Plastic shopping bags
• Motor oil, insecticide, herbicide, or other hazardous chemical containers
