It's not clear why they stole the gun or why the teacher brought the gun to school in the first place.

MOLINE ACRES, MO — St. Louis County Police have arrested two Central Middle School students after they stole their teacher's gun, KMOV reports.
The incident happened on Wednesday, and the teacher — a substitute — reportedly didn't notice the gun missing until after the school day ended.
The boys, who were not identified, are 13 and 14 years old. It's not clear why they stole the gun or why the teacher brought the gun to school in the first place.

Police said they recovered the gun when the teens were taken into custody. A spokesperson for the Riverview Gardens School District said that while state law allows some teachers in mostly rural school districts to bring guns to campus, Riverview Gardens does not.

"Only law enforcement or approved district security officers can carry firearms on school property," said communications director Anthony Kiekow. He declined to comment on whether the substitute teacher could face charges or disciplinary measures and directed further questions to the St. Louis County Police.
