Democrats Take Back Missouri House Seat

The Democratic victory represents a 31-point swing in a district that went overwhelmingly to President Trump in 2016.

FENTON, MO — Fenton Democrat Mike Revis took back a Missouri House seat in a special election Tuesday, beating out Republican David Linton in a Jefferson County-district that went to President Trump by an overwhelming 28-point margin in 2016. Republicans held on to three other seats left up for grabs after a slew of GOP resignations in recent months.

Democrats say they have flipped 35 legislative seats across the country since the 2016 election, in addition to decisively winning governor's races in Virginia and New Jersey in November. Voters also elected Democrats in mayoral contests in Charlotte, N.C., and St. Petersburg, Fla., and chose to expand Medicaid coverage in Maine, defying that state's Republican leadership.

It's the beginning of what Democrats say is a building "blue wave" ahead of the 2018 midterms and Republicans hope is just a fluke.
