Man Sentenced For Fatal UMSL MetroLink Shooting

Twenty-year-old Djion Oates will serve seven years in prison for involuntary manslaughter and gun charges.

ST. LOUIS, MO — Twenty-year-old Djion Oates was sentenced to seven years in prison this week after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter and gun charges. Prosecutors said Oates, who lives in Berkeley, Missouri, shot and killed 22-year-old Jesse Boone in April 2017 during an argument at a MetroLink station near the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Oates' attorneys said he shot Boone in self-defense after Boone tried to rob him, but Oates was on probation for robbery himself at the time of the shooting.
