ST. LOUIS, MO — MLB Opening Day is Thursday and Cardinals fans ought to be excited because, if for no other reason, it means spring has really arrived. Big names including Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer, Aaron Nola, Corey Kluber, Zack Greinke and Chris Sale are among the aces slated to take the mound this year.

The Cardinals will play the Brewers at Miller Park beginning Thursday at 1 p.m. The first home game is April 4 versus the Padres, starting at 3:15 p.m. Tickets to the game can be bought today. Enter the promo code “PatchTickets10” to get 10 percent off.

Heading into the 2019 season, oddsmakers are bullish about the Cardinals’ chances to win the World Series. According to Oddschecker.com, they have a 5.3 percent chance to come home with a championship and are ranked 9th overall, right behind the Cleveland Indians and those blasted Cubs.

Oddsmakers are most bullish on the revamped New York Yankees, followed by the defending champion Boston Red Sox and the Houston Astros. Bookies give the Yankees a 14.3 percent chance to win the title. The Red Sox and Astros each have a 13.3 percent chance to win the World Series.

Confused? Basically, all you need to know is the teams with the higher percentages are more likely to win it all than the teams with the lower percentages. That means a successful $100 bet on the Yankees to win it all would result in a payout of $700. The payout for the Red Sox and Astros would be $750. Bet it all on the Cardinals, and you'd be in for $1,800.

Here are the implied World Series odds for every team, according to Oddschecker:

The Orioles, Marlins, Royals, Tigers and Rangers represent the bottomfeeders this year. In fact, the odds are so low for the Orioles to win it all that you could turn $100 into a new BMW or Cadillac. The Orioles have the worst odds this year with just a 0.2 percent chance. This means that a successful $100 bet on the Orioles would result in the gambler earning a massive payout of just over $40,000.

Perhaps the biggest early storyline this year will be how much newly acquired phenom Bryce Harper will boost the Philadelphia Phillies. According to OddsShark, The Phillies’ World Series odds jumped from 7.69 percent before signing Harper all the way to 10.5 percent after he joined the team.
