Normandy School Official Used Stun Gun On 14-Year-Old: Police
The student suffered red welts. The security official was arrested.

NORMANDY, MO — The head of security for the Normandy School District has been suspended after police say he used a stun gun on a 14-year-old student. The incident occurred at Normandy Middle School shortly before noon Friday. Authorities said the civilian security official was arrested after the school's sworn resource officer heard the incident near the principal's office and found the guard holding the stun gun near the injured student.
Police said video of the incident shows the security official pin the student against a wall and jab him with the stun gun. The student was preparing to go home after a half-day when the guard allegedly told him to return to class. The student tried to get away from the security official but he was grabbed and stunned, police said.
The student suffered welts and his father took him to the hospital. The Normandy Police Department said it against their policy to use stun guns on children.

Prosecutors have not yet filed charges against the security official. A spokesman for the St. Louis County prosecutor's office said the evidence is under review.
The Post-Dispatch reports at least two other cases of excessive force used by security officials with the Normandy School District. In 2011, a 12-year-old suffered a concussion after being thrown against a locker. Later that same year, an 18-year-old student's heart ruptured after a security official put a knee on his chest.
