Portraits of Seven Extraordinary People Under One Light

The exhibit at the library, 225 North Euclid Avenue in St. Louis' Central West End, is free and open to the public.

”Portraits of Seven Extraordinary People Under One Light” is an original photography exhibit by creative photographer Chuck Ramsay that will be showcased at the Schlafly Branch of the St. Louis Public Library May 2 thru May 29, 2018.

The exhibit at the library, 225 North Euclid Avenue in St. Louis’ Central West End, is free and open to the public. A free public reception with the photographer and people he photographed for the exhibit will be hosted at the library from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 9.

“This series of informal portraits focuses on my desire to produce compelling images of interesting and diverse people who do not normally reside in the limelight,” said Ramsay. “I did not want to show people as they wanted to be seen, or as they envision themselves, but as others most often see them.

“The everyday people around us form a tapestry that can open our minds to greater acceptance and understanding of each other and foster greater access to human rights,” Ramsay said.

“Each individual in these images, I believe, can move into the light of our consciousness, and we can better appreciate their uniqueness and humanity once we ‘see’ them. All we have to do is open our minds, then look and listen. Just look into their faces and discover something about yourself,” he added.

Another aspect of this project was to impose some constraints for the photographer to change how he would normally approach making a photograph by limiting artificial lighting to a single small LED Fresnel spot, sometimes supplemented by a reflector.

Ramsay has successfully worked in the creative and publishing arts as well as professional advertising and photography throughout his career. To see more of his photographic work visit the website http://www.chuckramsay.com.
