Saint Louis Area Students Again Stage Gun Violence Walkouts

As with the walkouts last month, students called for stricter gun laws and safer schools.

ST. LOUIS, MO — Students at high schools across the country walked out of class this morning on the 19th anniversary of the Columbine shooting, when Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris walked into their school cafeteria with pipe bombs and semi-automatic weapons and murdered 13 classmates before killing themselves.

Since Columbine, 122 students have been murdered in more than two dozen fatal school shootings in the United States. One of the highest profile of those shootings was at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on Valentine's Day. That event set off a chain of student activism across the country that includes today's walkouts.

Students from more than 20 St. Louis area schools announced plans to walkout Friday.
