Wentzville Man Charged With Impersonating FBI Agent

Mark Van Ronzelen's fake ID didn't work on a real cop, prosecutors say.

ST. LOUIS, MO — Mark Van Ronzelen, 45, was indicted last month after trying to use his fake FBI credentials on the wrong person. The Wentzville man reportedly followed a police officer home in April, flashing a fake FBI badge and asking the officer to identify himself, the Post-Dispatch reports.

It's not clear why he followed the police officer home. When the police officer challenged him, Van Ronzelen apologized and left, officials said. He was arrested a short time later. Investigators have offered no explanation for why he had so many fake IDs, but court documents indicate Van Ronzelen's attorney is seeking a psychiatric exam of his client.

Prosecutors say Van Ronzelen also had a fake White House press pass indicating that he was a journalist with Fox News and another indicating he was an employee of the St. Louis Blues hockey team.

In addition to the fake IDs, Van Ronzelen had special printers and other equipment used to forge such documents, prosecutors say.
