St. Louis Community Comes Together To Provide Coronavirus Shots

The City of St. Louis Department of Health wrapped a busy week of COVID-19 vaccine clinics tonight as it continues efforts to provide opportunities for members of the community to protect themselves from SARS-CoV-2. From Monday, June 21 through this evening, the Department of Health administered 620 vaccines to the St. Louis community.

“We want to thank every person who came to our clinics this week and throughout this year, as it’s just one of the important ways to protect yourself from this coronavirus,” says Dr. Fredrick Echols, acting director of health for the City of St. Louis. “Those who have already received the vaccine can help the Department by discussing the reasons they decided to get vaccinated with friends or family who may be hesitant.”

Several community partners contributed to the success of this week’s clinics, including the St. Louis Cardinals, The Boys and Girls Club of St. Louis, North Park United Methodist Church, Star Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Kairos Academies, community volunteers, and the St. Louis Fire Department. The Department of Health says thank you to each group for its support in protecting the St. Louis community from COVID-19.

The Department of Health continues to work toward helping the community find a COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccines are also available through many commercial pharmacies and medical providers. If you or someone you know wishes to be vaccinated, visit vaccines.gov [www.vaccines.gov] to find a site near you. COVID-19 vaccines are provided at no cost to individuals.

City of St. Louis Mayor Tishaura O. Jones is also committed to getting more people vaccinated by proposing $6.75 million from American Rescue Plan direct relief funding to build out the City's critical public health infrastructure and to hold mobile vaccination clinics, community outreach and education, and additional community health workers.

The Department of Health encourages all residents and visitors to St. Louis to continue following COVID-19 safety precautions, even after receiving the COVID-19 vaccines, to prevent the further spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. These include wearing a facial covering, watching your distance from anyone who does not live with you, and washing your hands frequently.
