Vandals Ransack Normandy High School, Classes Canceled

Class is canceled until Thursday after at least two individuals broke glass and sprayed fire extinguishers at the school over the weekend.

WELLSTON, MO — Normandy High School in the north St. Louis County municipality of Wellston is closed until Thursday after vandals ransacked classrooms and sprayed fire extinguishers inside the school over the weekend, the Post-Dispatch reports.

"Due to acts of vandalism committed at the high school over the weekend and for the safety of students and staff, classes are cancelled at Normandy High School Tuesday, Sept. 25, and Wednesday, September 26," school officials wrote online. "To ensure the environment is safe and appropriate for learning, we are cancelling classes so that our Facilities and Maintenance teams can clean and make the necessary repairs."

The school said it is cooperating with local police to investigate the vandalism. Officials said security footage shows at least two individuals who are believed to be minors entering the building, overturning trash cans, discharging fire extinguishers and shattering glass doors.

"The images are pretty clear," the school's communications director, Sharifah Sims-Williams, told the Post-Dispatch. "More than likely we'll find out who did it."
