Pair of Cats Lose Their Human to Death, Need Homes

Smokey and Butler are 2 years old, female and male.

"Orphaned" cats Smokey, female and Butler, male are both 2 years old and.

When their owner died unexpectedly, this sweet couple of felines was alone for almost a month in a lonely house. Friends fed them while they readied the house for sale but never did see the cats because they hid.

After Crestwood's Animal Control professionally nabbed the pair inside the house, the two quickly adjusted to new accommodations at the city's shelter.

Smokey and Butler could be adopted together, of course, but shelter officials have no concerns about adopting them out to separate homes. They believe the cats would benefit from bonding with a human again, instead of only each other.

Both cats are domestic short hair, 2 years old and came to the shelter on Jan. 19, according to Crestwood Animal Control.
