Sperreng M&M's Fundraiser Earns More Than $11,000 for Gapsch Family

A dual-effort fundraiser for the Gapsch family, who lost three family members following a house fire in South County two weeks ago, was successful on all accounts.

Members of the Mehlville Fire Protection District, St. Louis County Police, Sperreng MC-PTO and volunteers served 6,000 meals with a barbecue at Sperreng this past Friday and Saturday.

Members of the Sperreng MC/PTO also handed out M&M's candy at the school on Saturday to those who made donations to the family. (Culver's South County also served frozen custard.) The effort, dubbed "M&M's for Mia and Maci," raised more than $11,000, according to an update from Lindbergh Schools.

The Lindbergh Schools Foundation is continuing to collect funds for the family.

79-year-old Georgetta, 38-year-old Terry and 11-year-old Maci Gapsch all died as a result of their injuries. Georgetta's son, MFPD firefighter Mike Gapsch, was among the first responders to the scene. 13-year-old Sperreng student Mia Gapsch is the sole survivor of the fire.
