Five Things You Need To Know About Patch

As Patch editor for our two cities, Sunset Hills-Crestwood (or Crestwood-Sunset Hills), I want to help you, our residents, communicate and build on the incredible sense of community we already have going here.

The Patch website is a place to post all our local events, news, weddings—with photos and videos, meetings, sports, opinions, awards, crime, traffic, weather and whatever else you think is necessary for the good life in Sunset Hills and Crestwood. Think of it as an information hub.

What is Patch? It's a hyper-local website. Also, Patch is nearly a start-up company, owned by AOL. Most cities in the area will get their own Patch websites, just like we have here. Let's start using ours.

Look me up to report on local news or upload your own info to the Patch website in the "announcements" category.

Then, when you see me around town with computer and cameras, let's talk. Let's make a video or take a photo and share it on the website. Let's start conversations with friends, family and community on Patch's website about what's hot and what's not.

If there are questions about issues, I'll follow up—or our team of local freelance writers will follow up—and we'll post answers on the website.

What's in it (for me)?

• NEWS: We'll cover breaking local news as well as report on civic, school, business and arts topics—as well as sports. You tell us what you want to know.
• DIRECTORY: This is an extensive listing of local businesses that have free web pages with Patch and there is a lot of information here. Save a trip.
• EVENTS: Updated daily, this is a listing of what is going on in Sunset Hills and Crestwood seven days a week.
• ANNOUNCEMENTS: You can upload your own important happenings directly onto the Patch website--things like births, deaths, weddings, engagements, awards, college acceptance, scholarships and more.

Where's the office?  Editors work from a virtual office, which means you are likely to find me anywhere in the two cities where news is being made. I work from my laptop computer.
