Major Crash Closes Part Of Interstate 64
A multi-vehicle crash involving 5 cars and a tractor-trailer killed one person Tuesday morning. I-64 has been re-opened near the scene.

TOWN AND COUNTRY, MO — One man was killed when his car collided with a semi truck on Interstate 64 around 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. Altogether six vehicles were involved in the crash and I-64 is closed between Interstate 270 and Mason Road, authorities said. Multiple people were taken to nearby hospitals with minor injuries, including a teenager and an infant.
Traffic was at a standstill for several hours, but Interstate 64 has been re-opened as of around 12:30 p.m., officials said.
A spokesman with the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the car that initiated the crash was changing lanes to exit onto Interstate 270 when it was struck by the tractor-trailer. The car became wedged and caught fire while other vehicles struck the wreckage.

The highway patrol originally said two people had been killed and at least 15 vehicles involved in the crash. Those reports were wrong. Images from the scene showed a car on fire and pinned beneath the rear part of an 18-wheeler's trailer.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Crash on eastbound I-64 will most likely impact traffic in both directions for about five hours. Drivers should consider alternate routes (141, Lindbergh, Manchester, Olive) to avoid congestion. pic.twitter.com/X84GE5cGU8
