Health Protection & Education Services (HPES) and Midwest Association of Farmers Markets (MAFM) are pleased to announce they have combined resources and services to expand the mission of the Diabetes Health Program to three St Louis County Farmers Markets. This new program launch is made possible by a grant from the American Medical Association Foundation.
Free Diabetes Health Screenings and Nutrition Education classes are offered to the public by HPES at or near three St Louis County Farmers Markets. People who attend and receive glucose testing get a $10 Gift Voucher to purchase fresh farm products at the U City, Kirkwood and Schlafly Farmers Markets. Healthy meal preparation and cooking demonstrations are provided to encourage clients to eat healthy meals at home.
The diabetes testing sites are: The University City Library every 3rd Saturday of the month from 9:00am - 10:30am; the Kirkwood Farmers Market every 4th Saturday of the month from 8:00am - 10:30am; and the Schlafly Farmers Market every 4th Wednesday of the month from 3:00pm - 6pm.
