University City mourns the loss of Hazel Erby, a long-time resident, consummate civil servant and politician who left an indelible mark on University City and St. Louis County. She exemplified honesty and integrity and was a tireless advocate for racial equality and a role model for women of color in politics and other leadership roles. In addition to raising her family in University City, serving on the University City School District Board of Education and as a member of the City Council, she was a genuinely kind, considerate and compassionate friend and neighbor to all who knew her. We are proud to have known her and to call her our neighbor. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and others whose lives were touched by her relentless commitment to making the St. Louis region a better place for all.
