Children who were discouraged from acknowledging painful feelings may become anxious adults. Have you learned to stuff feelings because your afraid to feel them? Often times children and adolescents do not feel as good as their peers. Do you remember expressing painful feelings in terms of crying, acting out, isolating, your attitude or other behaviors? Were you afraid to express yourself to your parent(s)? Or were you fortunate to have parent(s) who listened and helped you learn how to manage your feelings?

You may have become accustomed to denying your feelings by self-medicating: perfectionism, alcohol/drugs, overspending, gambling or other behaviors to deflect from painful feelings. We all deserve to acknowledge our feelings. This is the way to move forward.
