Six Things: How to Drive Around A Roundabout

Construction on the mock roundabout in front of City Hall begins today.

Crews will start construction work Tuesday to complete the mock roundabout in front of University City City Hall at Delmar and Trinity. The work should be completed by Thursday.

Once finished, the roundabout will be place for at least 30 days while the city evaluates the traffic pattern.

Do you know how to drive a roundabout? Here are some tips from the City.

Roundabout Driving Safety Tips

  1. As you approach the roundabout, you will see a sign "roundabout ahead" sign with an advisory speed limit for the roundabout.
  2. Slow down as you approach the roundabout, and watch for pedestrians in the crosswalk.
  3. Continue toward the roundabout and look to your left as you near the yield sign and dashed yield line at the entrance to the roundabout. Yield to traffic already in the roundabout.
  4. Once you see a gap in traffic, enter the circle and proceed to your exit. If there is no traffic in the roundabout, you may enter without yielding.
  5. Look for pedestrians and use your turn signal before you exit, and make sure to stay in your lane as you navigate the roundabout.
  6. Pedestrians shall use the marked crosswalks at the four (4) legs of the intersection to cross Delmar Boulevard and Trinity Avenue.
