Zackary Ward, 26, Charged With University City Murder

Ward was arrested on Feb. 9 for an unrelated weapons charge and is currently held without bond in St. Louis.

UNIVERSITY CITY, MO — Zachary Ward, 26, has been charged with first-degree murder, assault and two counts of armed criminal action for a January 31 shooting that left 27-year-old Allen Young dead and a woman injured.

The shooting occurred in the 1200 block of Meyer Street, just north of Heman Park. Officers from University City responded to a call about gunshots shortly before 7 p.m. and found a man and a woman critically injured.

Ward is being held at the St. Louis City Justice Center without bond. According to court records, he has several previous convictions, including unlawful possession of a firearm and resisting arrest, for which he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years in prison.

Ward was arrested by St. Louis Metropolitan Police on Feb. 9 for an unrelated charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and arraigned on Feb. 13. A preliminary hearing for that charge is scheduled for March 15 at Carnahan Courthouse in St. Louis. No attorney is listed.
