Chromebooks for Everyone! 4 New Things at Wentzville Schools This Year

Along with the laptops, Wentzville School District is bringing in Common Core Standards.

School starts for students in the Wentzville School District next week. Here are four new things going on in the district this year:

  • The district is implementing a revised English Language Arts curriculum aligned to the Common Core State Standards that include increased rigor and more emphasis on non-fiction. The goal is to have all students college and career ready when they graduate from high school.
  • Chromebooks (laptop computers) have been provided to all juniors and seniors in the District, so now every high school student at all three high schools has a computer to use for the entire school year.
  • There will be four days added to the 2013-14 school year, two student attendance days and two professional development days for staff members for a total of 178 instructional days for grades K-8 and 179 days for 9-12.
  • There will not be any early release days at the elementary and middle schools, but there will be two finals early release days at the end of each semester at the high schools. The school day will also be increased by ten minutes, so there will be a seven hour instructional day at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
