Local author, Piper Punches, and Roasted Bean Coffee Shop in Troy hosting meet & greet, Saturday, Sept. 16 from 2:00 - 5:00pm.

Lincoln County Author, Piper Punches, Uses Fiction to Bring Awareness to Human Trafficking

Wentzville, MO - (September 11, 2017) - Human trafficking is a social epidemic that hides in the shadows. It’s an issue that many people don’t realize is happening in their own neighborhoods, which is why local author, Piper Punches, decided to use fiction to bring awareness to a social issue that many people don’t see.

A self-proclaimed writer of truth and fiction, Piper's books are family drama stories that use fiction to explore complex topics and promote the resiliency of the human spirit. Her latest book, 60 Days (Missing Girl Series – Book 1), is no exception. It is an emotionally-charged work of fiction designed to bring awareness to the issue of human trafficking while, simultaneously, telling a heart-wrenching tale of sisterhood, loss, addiction, and the pitfalls of family loyalty. Not only does 60 Days address the issue of human trafficking, it does so on a very personal level with half of the story taking place just down the road in Troy, MO.

Local writers often write about places in the community they live in, but Punches’ inclusion of Troy in her novel was intentional for a different reason.

“When people think of human trafficking, they don’t automatically think of rural Missouri. Bigger cities like St. Louis, Chicago, New York – those are the places that many people expect these atrocities to take place,” explains Ms. Punches. “Yet, the fact is that human trafficking is a problem even in the tiny, tucked away corners of the country; in places, we’d never imagine. No one is immune.”

When I decided to write this book, nearly four years ago, it was before every news outlet started reporting on trafficking, “she explains. “It was before trafficking became a buzzword. I knew that 60 Days had to have a local storyline to make an impact on the readers in my own backyard.”

With a writing style that is lyrical and truthful, to the point, yet introspective, 60 Days has been described by readers as brave, well-written, and impossible to put down. Unless they don’t like cliffhangers, to which Ms. Punches says, “What can I say? It’s the first book of a series. A cliffhanger was inevitable and it’s a big one.”

To learn more about 60 Days and her other writings, Piper is hosting a meet and greet at the Roasted Bean Coffee Shop in Troy, MO, on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Signed copies of 60 Days will be available to purchase at the event.

About 60 Days (Missing Girl Series – Book 1)

Lizzie has made bad decisions throughout most of her adult life. She drinks too much. Takes too many drugs and chooses the wrong men. Her obsession with finding her father eventually leads her down a dangerous path that has turned her into a person she doesn’t recognize. It’s turned her into a murderer.

After all, isn’t she the reason Sophia is dead?

Emily is the better sister, and always making the right choices. Or, so it seems. These days Emily’s life is unraveling at every end. She is struggling to pay for her mother’s healthcare. Her relationship with her married boss is threatening her promotion to detective, and she and Lizzie are further apart than ever. When Lizzie takes off on a whim to chase the ghost of their father, Emily’s carefully constructed life spins out of control.

The authorities say girls and women go missing every day, especially those with a history of addiction and a propensity for hanging out with the wrong crowd. Some are missed. Most are forgotten. Emily knows this is true, but she can’t accept it. She won’t accept it. Letting go of Lizzie is not an option. So when a pawnshop owner calls with unexpected information about Lizzie’s disappearance, she heads south to the Arizona-Mexico border to bring her sister back at whatever cost.

As Emily gets closer to the truth about Lizzie’s disappearance, she is forced to face her own truths about the ghost she’s running from and that she may not ever see her sister again.
