Serco Laying Off 660 Obamacare Employees In Wentzville
The company that manages ACA applications for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will cut 660 jobs in Wentzville.

WENTZVILLE, MO — Serco, a private British company that manages the provision of public services, will lay off 660 employees from its Wentzville location. Serco was awarded a $1.2 billion contract from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in 2013, and has been a major processor of Obamacare applications, despite whistleblowers alleging that employees often had too much time and too little to do at the facility.
The Trump administration has cut funding for implementing the Affordable Care Act, former President Obama's signature health care law, including advertising and cost-sharing payments to insurers. Nonetheless, Republicans have been unable to repeal the law outright and almost 9 million people enrolled through the federal marketplace this year.
A spokesman for the CMS said the program has become more efficient over time, leading the agency to consolidate operations to fewer sites with lower operating costs.

The terminations will occur no later than June 30, Serco said, adding that employees will not have the right to bump other company employees based on seniority or to transfer to other facilities. Jobs cut include business analysts, clerks, secretaries, system administrators, network engineers, and the facilities manager.
