The St. Charles City-County Library District is hosting the Mid America TEEN CERT program to offer TEEN CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training to anyone 12-18 years old. The course will teach students to assist local emergency services and the communities of St. Charles County and surrounding areas in case of a large-scale emergency or a disaster, such as the current flooding situation.
The training will be held at library’s Spencer Road Branch, located at 427 Spencer Road in St. Peters, beginning Saturday, July 8, 2017 and continuing for five consecutive Saturday mornings through August 5. Class will be in the Siteman Cancer Center Event Room (Room 240) from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. All five sessions are required for course certification.
For several years, residents of the community have expressed concerns about real and perceived issues around natural disasters, acts of terrorism or violence, and the response of police and fire departments to a given situation. By taking training through a CERT or TEEN CERT program, residents have the unique opportunity to go from talk to action and to become part of the solution.

Working with surrounding cities and municipalities, the Mid America TEEN CERT training program enhances community education and strengthens mutual aid between police and fire departments, as well as businesses and organizations, should a catastrophic emergency occur. Last month, Parents Magazine and Kansas City-based Hallmark announced that Mid America TEEN CERT was voted as the #7 family-friendly program in the U.S. in their "Family-Friendly 50" for 2017.
