Missoula Rural Fire District is establishing an eligibility list for Entry-level Firefighter. The 2021 base salary for Probationary Firefighter I is $56,269 and Probationary Firefighter I/Paramedic is $61,069 (additional salary depending on qualifications). About Missoula Rural Fire District

Missoula Rural Fire District (MRFD) is in picturesque Western Montana and proudly serves a population of more than 35,000. MRFD is a full-service fire department covering over 127 square miles in Missoula County.

In 2020, MRFD responded to over 2600 incidents. Many services are provided to the community including Fire, Advanced Life Support Emergency Medical Services, Technical Rescue, and Hazardous Materials Response. The MRFD Community Risk Reduction Division provides Fire Prevention Services, Inspections, Code Enforcement, Fire Investigation, as well as Fire and Life Safety Education. There are currently five fire stations that operate 24 hours a day.

MRFD’s jurisdiction includes three rivers, Interstate 90, many highways, and a mix of industrial, suburban, and rural including wildland urban interface areas. Considering the many year-round, outdoor recreational opportunities and the true four-season climate, Missoula Rural Fire District responds to a vast array of incidents daily. Exceptional ongoing training is of utmost priority so our crews are ready for any situation that may arise.

Missoula Rural Fire District employs a Fire Chief, two Assistant Fire Chiefs, and four civilian administrative positions. Operations include 52 career firefighters who work a 24/48 schedule with a K-day every 9th shift. MRFD is also supported by 24 volunteer firefighters.
