Green Plains Powers Fresh Air for Nebraska

Today, the American Lung Association in Nebraska announced that Green Plains, Inc. will again be the presenting sponsor of the Association’s Fight For Air Corporate Cup on September 8. As the presenting sponsor for the third consecutive year, Green Plains will invest more than $25,000 in the fight for clean air and healthy lungs.

The locally based company, which produces cleaner-burner fuels, has invested more than $85,000 with the local Lung Association over the last few years in an effort to support local organizations that share in their vision to reduce vehicle emissions. Green Plains’ investment in the Corporate Cup will help fund the Lung Association’s work to reduce air pollution, advocacy efforts to prevent lung disease and educational programs to support the 200,000 people in Nebraska who live with lung disease.

“According to our recent State of the Air report, more than four in 10 Americans live in places that have unhealthy air pollution, and vehicle emissions are a significant contributor to this air pollution. Cleaner vehicles are a way to help reduce air pollution and improve the health of our communities,” said Julia McCarville, executive director of the Lung Association. “We truly value our partnership with Green Plains because they share our mission for clean air and healthy lungs. Without sponsors like Green Plains, the Fight For Air Corporate Cup and our important work would not be possible.”

Green Plains, based in Aksarben Village, is one of world’s largest producers of ethanol. The company has 17 ethanol production facilities in nine states where they purchase approximately 14 million tons of corn annually to be used in the ethanol production process. Green Plains also has operations related to grain handling and storage, agribusiness, commodity marketing and distribution services, and food ingredients.

The Fight For Air Corporate Cup, set for September 8 at Aksarben Village in Omaha, is a 10K and 2-Mile run/walk that benefits the Lung Association in Nebraska.
