On September 8, employees of Sirius Computer Solutions will participate in the Fight For Air Omaha Corporate Cup to bond as a team, support the community, and raise awareness of lung disease.

For team captain Chris Hoke, the Corporate Cup is personal. When he was three, he had part of his right lung removed. Growing up, he often struggled with running because of his reduced lung capacity. Last year, Hoke became involved with the American Lung Association in Nebraska and competed in the Corporate Cup for the first time.

This year, Hoke and one of his colleagues each set up a team under the main Sirius company team, where they compete for number of runners and highest fundraising. The team hopes to grow from 11 participants last year to 30-40 this year.

“It is a really fun activity for us,” he said. “Sirius does a great job supporting us.”

Company team building is one part of the event, but the most important thing for Hoke is to help fight lung disease.

“Participating in the Corporate Cup has been really rewarding for me. My lung disease was relatively mild, but for people with severe asthma, lung cancer or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, there is a much larger impact to the quality of life of the person and the family,” he said.

The Fight For Air Corporate Cup, set for September 8 at Aksarben Village in Omaha, is a 10K and 2-Mile run/walk that benefits the Lung Association in Nebraska. Learn more and register at OmahaCorporateCup.org.
