From College Past-time to Primetime

Sin City is home to competitions of all kind. This past week, she was home to the World Series of Beer Pong which happens to be the largest and longest running organized beer pong tournament in the world.

For many people, beer pong is a drinking game played at a house party during college or at a handful of holidays over the years. There are common beer pong rules, but everyone has their own way of playing - except for professional Beer Pong players and participants at the World Series of Beer Pong in Las Vegas.

The games are held and played under WSOBP official rules which govern all gameplay during the tournament. Two-person teams stand at either end of an eight-foot-long table with 10 16-ounce cups set up in bowling pin formation on the table and filled with water. They take turns tossing beer pong balls - no, not ping pong balls - at the opposing team’s cups. When a ball goes into a cup, the cup is removed from the game to the side of the table. The first team to sink a ball in every one of the opposing team’s cups wins.

What was once the staple of college get-togethers has now become a competitive sport played on the world stage. Skills honed on Friday and Saturday nights at college can now help players win cash prizes that push the $1,000,000 mark at the World Series of Beer Pong.

In 2006, the World Series of Beer Pong was born unto Las Vegas. And every year consecutively after 2006, the WSOBP has been held in Sin City or in a location nearby. During the WSOBP there can be satellite tournaments which range all over the country - even held in a Canadian province.

Originally known as Beruit, Beer Pong is one of the most popular drinking games in not only the United States, but North America overall and even in other countries. At the WSOBP, more than 5 different countries compete in the tournaments in Las Vegas as well as in satellite matches in tournaments all around the United States.
