Las Vegas New Year's Eve Road Closures
The Las Vegas Strip and surrounding roads will be closed to traffic for New Year's Eve. Here's a list of roads to avoid on Sunday.

There's a lot of planning that goes into celebrating the new year. First, deciding what to do. The options in Las Vegas are endless. From shows, to club crawls, a party Stratosphere, or on the High Roller. That's not to mention the celebration on the Strip and along Fremont St. where fireworks will go off at midnight in both locations. There's something for everyone on New Year's Eve in Las Vegas.
Before all that, you can catch the best show in town right know - the Vegas Golden Knights who are one a six game winning streak atop the NHL's Western Conference. They host the Toronto Maple Leafs at T-Mobile Arena at 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 31.

The city of Las Vegas will also see an enhanced security presence across the entire valley leading up to and after New Year's. In a press conference this week, Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo announced the federal government has classified the Las Vegas New Year's celebration as a SEAR 1 event, meaning it hold the highest public security risk. The press conference came with the announcement that snipers will join spotters along elevated points along the Las Vegas Strip and Downtown Las Vegas. The federal government has also provided additional air assets, tactical medics, command centers, and ground resources to what the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department already employ for the event.

With the abundance of celebrations and increased security personnel, there will also be several road closures across the valley. To help prepare for your night, here's a list of road closures across Las Vegas on New Year's Eve:
Fremont Street Experience
The Fremont Street Experience will be closed to the public at 4 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will reopen at 6 p.m.
Las Vegas Strip
The Las Vegas Strip will be closed for traffic. By 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve all road between Sahara Ave. and Mandalay Bay Rd. will be closed off.
Traffic on the following roads will stay open throughout the night:
- Sahara Ave.
- Desert Inn Rd.
- Frank Sinatra Dr.
- Russell Rd.
- Koval Ln.
- Mandalay Bay Rd.
- US95 and I-215
Traffic along Harmon Ave. will be limited to casino guests traveling to and from hotel properties.
Ar 12:15 a.m., all walkways, elevators, and escalators along the Las Vegas Strip.
At 3:15 a.m., off ramps from I-15 onto E. Tropicana Ave. Flamingo Rd., and Spring Mountain Rd. begins. All other streets, roads, and alleys leading onto the Las Vegas Strip between Sahara Ave. and Russell Rd. will reopen.
Other road closures
- Off ramps from I-15 onto Tropicana Ave., Flamingo Rd., and Spring Mountain Rd. begin at 5 p.m.
- Streets leading onto Las Vegas Boulevard begin closing at 5:45 p.m.
- Traffic will be cleared and closed along the Las Vegas Strip from 6:15-6:45 p.m.
- Walkways, elevators, and escalators leading to or and crossing the Strip will be closed at 6:45 p.m.
