Las Vegas Police Report Officer Involved Shooting Friday Morning

Officer involved shooting reported Friday morning is the second one in a week, and fifth of 2018 for LVMPD.

LAS VEGAS, NV - Las Vegas Metropolitan Police are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in the northeast Valley near Madge Ln. and Mabel Rd. The shooting occurred "a short time ago," Metro said in a release sent this morning at 5:25 a.m.

This is the fifth officer involved shooting LVMPD has reported in 2018. On Thursday, March 29, two LVMPD officers shot and killed a man who approached them with a knife while responding to a domestic violence call.

No other information was immediately available. This is a developing story.

UPDATE (10:50 a.m.): At 4:45 a.m. on Friday morning, April 6, LVMPD stopped a vehicle for reckless driving. According to LVMPD Capt. Christopher Little, the driver of the vehicle immediately got out of the car with a gun in his hand. The driver dropped the gun on the ground, according to Little, and officers ordered him to stay away from the weapon.

According to Little, "the suspect started to reach towards the weapon and raise it towards the officers," prompting two officers to fire multiple rounds. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Sunrise Hospital and was pronounced dead.

LVMPD is investigating two other people who were inside of the vehicle that police pulled over. The names of the officers will be released within 48 hours, Metro said.
