Las Vegas Valley Reaches Record Dryspell

Christmas Eve marked record 102 days without recorded rainfall in the Las Vegas valley.

LAS VEGAS, NV - It's been a record 104 days since rain fell on the Las Vegas valley. The drought hit a record long of 102 days on Christmas Eve and isn't expected to end anytime soon. The week ahead forecast says that clear skies will close out the year and inch Las Vegas closer to an unprecedented four-month dry spell.

The last reported rainfall came in Las Vegas on Sept. 13 at 8:23 p.m. Not since 1944, when the Valley went 101 days without rain, has there been such a stretch of rainless days in southern Nevada.

It appears that 2017 will end with the 22 days of rain that have been recorded so far this year. That has amounted to just over six inches, surpassing 2016's total of just under five inches. The precipitation for the Las Vegas valley is officially recorded at McCarran International Airport.
