Local Students Raise $45,000 for the American Heart Association

Students and families pledged donations and hosted a spring festival to raise funds for the Kids Heart Challenge program

Students at Southern Highlands Preparatory School in Las Vegas recently raised more than $45,000 for the American Heart Association (AHA), the highest amount raised in the state of Nevada this year. Over multiple weeks, students and their families pledged donations to support AHA’s Kids Heart Challenge program, which teaches students about heart health and raises money for heart-related research and education. The fundraising culminated at the school’s spring festival, where ticket sales contributed to the donations and the school’s physical education teacher, Coach Watson, vowed to shave his head if the school reached its fundraising goal at the event. Students and their families successfully met the challenge, and students assisted Coach Watson in shaving his head at the event. At the end of May, the AHA CEO and regional director will present the school with a banner to recognize students for their state record.

Kids Heart Challenge is a fun and exciting event where students learn about their heart while helping others and raising money for the AHA. The Kids Heart Challenge prepares children for success through physical and emotional well-being.
