Nevada Marijuana Sales Surpass $1M Per Day In First Six Months

LAS VEGAS, NV - A half-year of legal cannabis is in Nevada's books and recreational sales exceeded an average of $1 million per day through the first six months.

February marks the eighth month since business opened in July 2017, and sales totals through December have been tallied by the Nevada Department of Taxation, showing the industry generated $30,376,795 in tax revenue for the state through the first six months. So far the state has reported $10.8 million through the wholesale tax and $19.5 million through retail tax.

For the month of December, a 15 percent tax on wholesale retail and medical marijuana - from grower to dispensary - brought the state $2,189,794. An additional $3,576,900 came to the state through a 10 percent retail tax on the nearly $36 million that was sold in the month. In terms of tax revenue, December was the second most profitable of the first six months, with $5,766,694 collected by the state.

At the midway point, totals show recreational marijuana sales could exceed $400 million in the first full year. In 184 days, dispensaries sold $195,467,170 worth of product.
