New Research Reveals Why Parents Aren't Happier With Kids

The Reason Has Nothing to do with "Adulting"

That little bundle of joy sure is precious, but parents also can't help think about the boatload of cash a kid is going to cost them for the next 20 years. Now you know why researchers say parents don't grow happier when expecting or after the bouncing baby boy or girl arrives.

Study authors David Blanchflower and Andrew Clark did reveal another interesting point in their working paper -- the presence of kids brings joy to parents, not the cost associated. As you might've noticed, it's Girl Scout Cookie time here in Southern Nevada. So even if you aren't a parent, someone else's kid may be costing you money (should you indulge in the cookies).

The Federal Government compiles data detailing the cost of raising kids, daycare, etc. to give would-be parents plenty of information beforehand. But if you read it -- or if more parents did for that matter -- you'd probably notice fewer children or pregnant women.

To raise a kid from birth to 17-years-old, according to the Government, will cost parents $250,000. That's with an average salary. And that figure is without guitar lessons, karate, dance classes, little league, ice skating -- you get the idea.
