For one thing, student debt is one of the biggest reasons people are afraid to buy homes, settle down, get married, and the rest of the American dream. Another reason the cost of college is so frustrating is that it requires being paid for regularly -- meaning that if you’re not paying for school by loan, then you need to be working. And working means that you’re not focusing on your school work, which is something many colleges mention becomes a problem. If students aren’t focusing on their school work because they have to work to afford going to school in the very first place, there is little benefit to the whole arrangement.
Internships present a great opportunity for students to get work experience in their field while going to school. Additionally, most jobs would like to see some kind of relevant work experience on an applicant’s resume, which oftentimes comes from a related internship. The problem with this is that if an internship is unpaid, how does the student either pay for school?

According to a new study on the average internship pay and the amount of work needed to pay for college tuition, Nevada is the only state where an out-of-state student can pay for a year of school with less than one full year of internship work. What’s ridiculous is that students are asked to have experience. Real world experience. And then internships don’t pay enough to help students afford the school they need to get the real world experience jobs are demanding in the real world (post-graduation).
