Rare Snow Dusts Las Vegas Strip And California Foothills (PHOTOS)

Areas that rarely see snow, including the Las Vegas Strip and southern California, are getting a real taste of winter.

Areas in the Southwest that rarely experience snowfall are seeing white flurries during this record-breaking winter season.

On Thursday, half an inch of snow dusted the Las Vegas strip, stirring excitement among Nevada residents and tourists alike. According to the National Weather Service, the storm brought the first significant snowfall at McCarran International Airport in a decade with 0.8 inches falling by Thursday afternoon. Some low-elevated suburban areas near Las Vegas were white after getting several inches of snow, The Associated Press reported.

Snow also coated areas in southern California including the Santa Monica Mountains and the foothills of Calabasas. Gritty Los Angeles traffic was even temporarily halted on various state routes where the snow sticking to.
