Upcoming Parks And Rec Activities In Clark County

If you're looking for stuff to enjoy the beautiful weather Las Vegas has had this winter, check out this list of activities in January.

CLARK COUNTY, NV - So far the winter season has been kind to the southern Nevada. Warm temperatures that ended 2017 have continued into the start of 2018 and there's no better time to get outside and breath some fresh desert air. January offers a number of outdoor activities. Here's a list of some outdoor activities and concerts taking place at Wetlands Park and Winchester Cultural Center this month.

Saturday, January 6

  • Who Goes There?

Investigate scat & tracks found in the park and create your own plaster mold of wildlife footprints. This is open to all ages and is free of charge. Advance signup is requires. Click here to register. The event takes place at 10 a.m. on Jan. 6 at Wetlands Park on 7050 E. Wetlands Park Ln.

  • Discovery Walk

Join a nature guide to explore the silly side of nature while walking Wetlands Park Nature Preserve. All ages are welcome and advance registration is required. Click here to register. This event also takes place at 10 a.m. at Wetlands Park.

  • Sunday Storytime

Join a librarian from Whitney Library for a nature-themed story and craft activity. All ages are welcome and the event is free on a walk in basis. The event begins at 11 a.m. at Wetlands Park.

Saturday, January 13

  • Wetlands Hands On!

This is the monthly community stewardship event that will take place at Wetlands Park. Volunteers will meet at the Nature Center at Wetlands Park. To register, email wetlands@clarkcountynv.gov. The event starts at 9 a.m. on Jan. 13.

  • Nature Tales

This nature themed story time and crafts event is free for all ages on a walk in basis. It begins at 11 a.m. on Jan. 13 at Wetlands Park.

  • Wetlands Walkers 2018 Kick-Off Hike

Join the group of Wetlands Walkers and track your mileage. Hikers can go in groups, with family, or hike alone. The groups cumulative mileage will be added up, so make sure you keep track of your own miles. This event is open to all and begins at 1 p.m. on Jan. 13 at the Nature Center at Wetlands Park.   • Marlane Coker and Las Vegas Hot Cole Orchestra in concert

Vocalist and pianist Marlane Coker performs wit the Las Vegas Hot Cole Orchestra at the Winchester Cultural Center at 7 p.m. on Jan. 13. Coker and the Las Vegas Hot Cole Orchestra will perform arrangements by Ed Mudrak & Kevin Stout. Coker has grown in the background of the Los Angeles jazz music scene by introducing her stylized interpretations of American standards. The Hot Cole Orchestra specializes in arrangements by Richie Cole from his four horn big band book.

Sunday, January 14

  • Golf Cart Tour

For those with mobility challenges, Wetlands Park is offering a golf cart tour of the park. The tour overlooks the scenic Las Vegas Wash and participants learn about the history and wildlife of Wetlands Park. The event starts at 11 a.m. on Jan. 14 and is free, but space is limited.   • Nature Art For Kids

Try your hand watercolor painting the desert sunsets found at Wetlands Park. This is for ages 6+ and starts at 1 p.m. on Jan. 14. Advance registration is required and the event is for ages 6 and older. Click here to register.

Monday, January 15

  • Arts & Crafts For Kids: Dream Wall Art Program

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., draw your dream of what the world will look like when you grow up. Will there be beautiful natural areas? What do people need to do make your dream come true? Art will be displayed in the Wetlands Park Exhibit Hall through January 31.

The event starts at 11 a.m. on Jan. 15 at Wetlands Park and is free and open to people of all ages on a walk in basis.

Tuesday, January 16

  • Nature Tales

Nature themed story time and craft activity event open to all ages on a walk in basis. The event starts at 11 a.m. on Jan. 16 at the Nature Center at Wetlands Park.

Friday, January 19

  • Quarteto Nuevo in concert

Quarteto Nuevo merges western classical, eastern European folk, Latin and jazz with an organic feel at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19 at Winchester Cultural Center. Quarteto Nuevo’s master musicians include Damon Zick on soprano saxophone; Jacob Szekely on cello; Kenton Youngstrom on guitar; and Felipe Fraga on percussion creating the ensemble’s razor-sharp precision, which is enhanced by jazzy interludes, lightly rumbling percussion motifs and mesmerizing rhythms. They effectively meld the music of ancient worlds and faraway places with a contemporary groove that enchants audiences of all ages.

Tickets are $11 in advance and $13 the day of the concert. Tickets can be purchased here, or at the front desk of the Winchester Cultural Center.

Saturday, January 20

  • Discovery Walk: Habitat Hike

Join a nature guide to discover the four unique habitats found in Wetlands Park. Participants should be required to walk at least two miles. The event is free and open to all ages. The hike starts at 10 a.m. on Jan. 20 at Wetlands Park. To register, click here.

  • Weekend Tykes

Weekend Tykes is an all-outdoor program for kids and parents featuring science, story time, wonder and discovery. The event starts at 11 a.m. on Jan. 20 at the Nature Center at Wetlands Park. It is open for children ages 3-6 and is free. To register click here.
